In order to read Urdu properly the first thing you need to do is to download the fonts. There are many Urdu fonts available on the web. But I am giving you the links to the two most commonly used Urdu fonts.
The second step is to install Urdu support for your operating system. Most modern operating systems have Urdu support available. It is not enabled by default so you will have to enable it.
If you have installed Urdu support for your operating system you should have no difficulty in writing Urdu using text editors that came with your operating systems like Notepad, Wordpad, Gedit (Ubuntu/Linux). People who followed the above given link to install Urdu support in Ubuntu Linux should have installed phonetic Urdu keyboard layout by now. For Windows users Crulp provides an easy to install and simple to use phonetic keyboard layout. There are many other ways to write Urdu. For example you can write using the Urdu Open Pad which is a free Urdu unicode text editor developed by the wonderboy of UrduWeb, Nabeel.
Ok so now that you have practised writing Urdu on your computer and have read plenty of Urdu blogs. You are probably thinking about starting your own Urdu Blog. No? Well then think about it now because setting up an Urdu blog is simple and very easy. You can start a free blog on Blogger or WordPress.com. There are ready to use WordPress Urdu Templates and Blogger Urdu Templates availablethat will give you a good starting point. Or you can start a free blog on Urdu Tech which is yet another blogging platform that uses WordPress but it provides free support to Urdu Bloggers with many Urdu Templates and a friendly support forum.
Remember that there are people who are always eager to help you and you can reach them by posting a message on any of these forums:
- Urdu Mehfil
- UrduTech Forums
- Urdu Coder Forums A forum of Linux Urdu Gurus but they don’t mind helping windows users either.
